Is it really safe to do what we want – when we want, with or without masks? I really want to say to you, “Yes, be free,” and for us to do that as a Jewish Community here at Temple Sinai. But as you know the reality of the pandemic slowing its course is just that. It’s still here and we still need to remain vigilant, if not for ourselves – but for everyone around us. We hope that everyone who is eligible has received their vaccinations, but since we cannot ask, nor is everyone in our community able to get a vaccination, we have to be cautious at all times.

For everyone who intended on being live and in-person this past Shabbat – thank you for supporting our decision to make a last-minute change. Moving forward, you will always know no later than Thursdays at 3:30 pm (please check our website) whether we are holding in-person services or not. Thanks also to everyone who offered expertise and insight regarding which information we rely on. So you know, we had been monitoring the Covid Positivity Rate for Washoe County. Those numbers differed from the NVHealthResponse.nv.gov site, and we will be using the latter site moving forward.

If reopening weren’t enough, July is here and that means lots of work ahead for our Rabbis, Board, and Committees. There is a lot going on for everyone. We will have a Buildings and Grounds weed pulling event on July 11 at 9 am (now that we’re opening up, let’s get the place looking great!). For those interested in Chevra Kadisha – there is a training also on July 11 at 10 am at Walton’s Funeral Home. The new board members will meet on July 14 to start the fiscal year and discuss all the needs of our facility and the upcoming High Holy Days. Our Rabbis are also prepping for the start of Sinai School and of course the High Holy Days. Please keep an eye on our website and on the weekly emails from Mike, for other upcoming events.

And finally, if you thought it was all work and no play, I want to invite everyone to join us for Jewish Heritage Night at the Reno Aces. I’ll be there! See the Jewish Nevada website or our website for more information – or click here.

L’Shalom,
Michael
