The Caring Committee’s mission is to support congregants in difficult times, sad times, and times of celebration. The Committee develops programs to reach out to members so they know they are valued. We work closely with the Rabbi.
The Committee holds bimonthly meetings to discuss its activities. We are open to new ideas that could benefit the congregation. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, December 27, 5:15 p.m. in the Temple Library.
Some of our activities:
- Send condolence and get-well cards
- Make hospital visits
- Visit people recovering at home from illness or treatment
- Phoning married members to wish them Happy Anniversary
- Phoning adult members to wish them Happy Birthday
- Visits to homebound members
- Preparing chicken soup and vegetarian soup to bring to homebound people and those recuperating at home
Committee members organize and participate in providing meals to people in need such as families with newborns and people recuperating at home. The Committee even assists nonmember Jews after receiving requests from family members. Committee members and our Rabbi have visited Jews getting medical treatment in Reno.
Please contact the Caring Committee to make a request for support, provide information or volunteer. You can contact me, Harvey Katz, committee chairman, at 775-453-2444 or at harveyk1@sbcglobal.net. Or contact the rabbi, or the Temple office. Better yet, use the online form on our website.
Regarding volunteers, we are seeking people for a shiva minyan list and for a list of people willing to prepare occasional meals for congregants as needed. None of these activities should be time-consuming or arduous.
We are also seeking people who, while not active Committee members, would like to be on the email list for notification of assistance requests such as making visits and calls and providing meals.
