On Sunday, March 3, 2019, we held a Mah Jongg tournament in the Temple Sinai Social Hall. Here is a short recap of the tournament which was held jointly by the Sisterhoods of Temple Emanu-El and Temple Sinai.

A special thanks to Marilyn Roberts and Brigitta Aaron for helping on the day of the event, and Mike Stombaugh for all the promotions, online reservations and miscellaneous things he does do make an event happen.

It was a huge success, and we received many compliments on the event. We had 32 people (1 male) participate and expect to have more next year. The event will be held next year on March 22, 2020. The profit made from this event was $651.89, which was split between the two synagogues. Our portion of the profits was donated to the Rabbis’ Discretionary fund ($325.95). Prize money was given to the three highest scores, along with a few other gifts and favors for all who participated. The entry fee was $40 and we served continental breakfast & lunch. We also did a 50/50 raffle which was donated to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research. The winner of the 50/50 (Donna Branson) donated her half to the foundation. A total of $123.00 was donated.

Sue Liebman and Iris Frank were the representatives from the Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood who were my co-chairs and plan to be involved next year.

Shalom,
Pam Sloan, President
Temple Sinai Sisterhood
