Shabbat

Shabbat Services at Temple Sinai

Kabbalat Shabbat

Fridays at 7:30 pm – Join Us Live, In Person, or Online

Whether you’re here in the Reno/Sparks area, traveling, or relaxing at home, you’re always welcome to greet Shabbat with us. We gather in person each week at Temple Sinai and also stream our services live—so you can join us from anywhere!

Watch on our website, Facebook, or YouTube, and share in the peace, music, and joy of Shabbat.

This Friday in-person services are on! We will have in-person and livestreaming services at Temple Sinai this week in the Sanctuary. No masks required.

Monthly Tot Shabbat

First Friday of the Month at 5:30 pm – In Person Only

Start Shabbat with singing, stories, and smiles! Our monthly Tot Shabbat service is designed especially for families with young children—but everyone is welcome. This fun, interactive service is short, sweet, and filled with age-appropriate joy to help little ones (and their grown-ups) celebrate Shabbat together.

Tot Shabbat typically takes place on the first Friday of each month. Want a reminder? Click here to email us and write “Add to Tot Shabbat List” in the message—so you don’t miss a thing!

Celebrate B’nei Mitzvah With Us

On Saturdays at 10:00 am – When Scheduled

When our children become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, we share the joy with everyone. We celebrate, in person and via livestream, each of these special services here on our website, as well as on Facebook and YouTube. This allows family and friends—near and far—to join in the celebration and be part of the milestone from wherever they are.

Shabbat Under the Stars - Outdoors

Fridays at 6:00 pm – 3 or 4 Times per Summer

These services are held outdoors in parks 3 or 4 times per summer. We try to hold them at a park in the south of Reno (usually at South Valleys Regional Park) and in the north of Reno (usually at Northgate Park in northwest Reno). We do not livestream these services, and there is no custom siddur to download for them. Check out the Shabbat Under the Stars page for the exact places, dates, and times for this year’s summer outdoor services.

Shabbat Morning Torah Study

Saturdays at 10:00 am – via Zoom

Every Shabbat morning at 10:00 am (Pacific Time), we gather on Zoom to explore the Torah verse by verse—unpacking its wisdom, debating its meanings, and discovering its relevance to our lives today. Our group includes both congregants and visitors, Jews and non-Jews, all coming together in an open and thoughtful conversation.

First Friday Shabbat Potluck Dinners at Sinai

6:00 pm the First Friday Monthly before the Shabbat Service

Everyone is welcome—bring a dish to share and/or lend a hand!

Come together on the first Friday of every month for our Shabbat Potluck Dinners at 6:00 pm—right after Tot Shabbat (5:30 pm) and before Kabbalat Shabbat services (7:30 pm). It’s a wonderful way to connect with fellow congregants of all ages over a shared meal and the spirit of Shabbat.

Volunteers are needed each month to bring entrees, salads, fruit, and desserts, and to help with setup and cleanup for the potluck. We’re using SignUp.com to make it easy. Follow the instructions below.

How to participate in 3 simple steps:

  1. Click the button below or visit signup.com/go/hsmKDLF.
  2. Choose your date and see which items or roles are still needed.
  3. Sign up—no account or password required!

Let’s make Shabbat special together—one potluck at a time.

Praise to You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of the universe,
Creator of the fruit of the vine.
Praise to You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of the universe who,
finding favor with us, sanctified us with mitzvot,
In love and favor,
You made the holy Shabbat our heritage
as a reminder of the work of Creation.
As first among our sacred days,
It recalls the Exodus from Egypt. You chose us and set us apart from the peoples. In love and favor You have given us Your holy Shabbat as an inheritance. Praise to You, Adonai, who sanctifies Shabbat.
